On Tuesday 17 September 2024, a memorandum of understanding was signed in Noordwijk (NL) between four space industry associations in the Benelux, namely SpaceNed in the Netherlands, VRI / Flanders Space in Flanders, The Brussels Aerospace Group in Brussels and Wallonie Espace in Wallonia. This cooperation agreement will allow the Benelux space industry to collaborate in R&D and in the development of a high-performance ecosystem for new products and services.
In particular, the MOU provides a framework for further collaboration around space, security and defence. These are themes that are relevant to the Low Countries and on which intensive cooperation can take place in the coming years. Themes that require attention are the role of space data and infrastructure for the management of ports, the maritime sector, the safety of critical infrastructure and the development of new downstream applications.
A Dutch delegation of space entrepreneurs was already on a working visit to Flanders in May 2024. In the shorter term, the collaboration will take further shape at the IAC in Milan and Space Tech expo in Bremen. We are also working on a visit by Flemish (Belgian) space industry associations to the Netherlands in the spring of 2025.
